In 1915, BrunoCarusetta Sr. started an ice cream parlour that stands in the same place The Rex does today - although the only remainder of this establishment is and old marble countertop.
In 1935, the parlour was transformed into an Italian restaurant thrived in Welland and the surrounding area - serving some of the first, and best, pizza in Ontario.
During the war, the restaurant was once again rebranded by the brothers to "The Marine"; however, it was quickly named "The Rex" when the hotel was built in 1948.
Eventually the Crown Room was added alongside several expansions - leading us to now, where the fourth generation will be taking over the family business. My grandfather, I'm sure, could not have envisioned over one hundred years ago that his ice cream parlour would have evolved, with his great-grandchildren continuing what he started.
Vivi bene,ridi spesso, ama tanto.
Live well, laugh often, love much.
